Community Values

To create an environment where positive and ethical attitudes are encouraged to constructively Rate their Employer.

To create a place where business people can share knowledge, contacts, needs, concerns and where they can do business in an encouraging, professional and business focused way.

To encourage members to understand that commercial relationships work best when they are built on the foundation of knowing and liking the person before business desires are communicated.

Rate My Employers foundations are built on this. We provide members with the ability to Rate their Employer, share knowledge, ask for advice and contribute to the community in a positive and supportive way.

All discussions should recognise member’s differing cultures, be polite and supportive and fun (but not at anyone else’s expense or by the use of swear words, criticism or public humiliation). We don’t moderate the forums because we believe the community should be able to support each other to create an environment for all. We do provide the means to alert us to abuse and spam and investigate those concerns when they are raised.

Any member who feels they have constructive criticism to offer is asked to contribute to the Rate My Employer User Group.

Our Philosophy

Rate My Employer has created a place were business people can network in a safe place. We want members to build their personal and business brands, build their network, develop and grow business opportunities. Rate My Employer provides an environment where members share their successes and ask for help – all in the comfort of knowing that their fellow members want to help guide them into better business practices and assist them with growing their business.

In order for Rate My Employer to grow with this foundation of values we must all be vigilant and committed to observe the Best Practice Guide outlined below. We seek a membership that shares these values and welcome all of those that do.

Best Practice Guide

Rate My Employer exists to provide you with the right environment to find support, knowledge and contacts for your business. As a Member of Rate My Employer, you become an ambassador to this community and an influence on each person involved within it.

We encourage people to be positive, constructive, open-mined and have an attitude of giving before asking. It is in our common interest to define a high level of conduct that each Member can expect from every other Member.

This Best Practice Guide provides you with the guidelines of the standards of conduct that Rate My Employer asks each Member to adhere to.

Communicating with Members

Direct contact:

Seek first to help. Some members won’t work the way you do in networking. Be courteous, and provide guidance. When we all do this the community gets stronger and the quality improves.

Forums

Be open to alternative views. When participating in forums, be aware that your communication is being read by others. Use forums for sharing learning and opportunities, and discussing topics positively.

Broadcasting

Consider your audience, and aim to make all your messages relevant and interesting to your chosen audience.

Blogging

Stay focused on the topic and be open to the ideas and thoughts of others. Be careful when using humour to be sure it is interpreted as that. In general it’s better to stay on the topic of the blog, and if another strand or thought occurs to you start a new blog for the tangential topic, this shows respect and keeps the debate working positively.

Copyright

Quoting copyrighted work with attribution is necessary. It is preferred if you copy only the relevant element of another’s work and provide a hyperlink back to the original.

Events

Welcome others as if they were your guests at Rate My Employer events and in one-to-one meetings. Participate with integrity and with the intention to contribute to the experience of other attendees.

Concerns and abuse

On rare occasions you may need to let us know about behaviour which is unacceptable in the environment of Rate My Employer as laid out in the Terms of Membership. We do urge you first to take the matter up directly with the relevant person in a constructive way through Private Messaging, but if you feel unable to do that, or if they continue their inappropriate behaviour in the public areas of the site you should report the abuse through the links on the members profile.

Rate My Employer is a facilitator of relationships, not an arbitrator.

On rare occasions, when a situation occurs where relationships have become strained or an accusation of abuse or sexual abuse is made, Rate My Employer may agree to mediate or recommend an independent mediator (the cost split by the parties involved). Rate My Employer will only agree providing the parties, both the victim(s) and the accused, are willing to have all information shared between them. In a court of Law, the accused is always able to see the accusation and understand what they are defending against.

If Rate My Employer or the mediator is asked to be a judge of whether someone’s conduct is abusive, written evidence must be provided. Rate My Employer or the mediator cannot discuss any acts of abuse with a third party, the ‘victim’ will be asked to communicate the evidence directly.

In the event of an accusation being made the ‘Accused’ will be given the opportunity to defend themselves. This can only be done if the accuser is willing to allow the accused to be shown the full accusation.

If it is found that the accused was abusing the relationship the member may be ejected from Rate My Employer with all details removed.

Rate My Employer maintains the privacy of all members when they complain, however, if mediation is requested – and accepted – it is expected that the need for information to be shared between the mediator and all the parties will be considered to be shared in confidence and binding on the parties.

Rate My Employer works on the belief that all members are good, positive and professional, in the event of relationship breakdown we recommend the parties involved, attempt to resolve their issues together before advising us as a third party.

Debate about members who have been suspended or banned

On very rare occasions the Management of Rate My Employer are required to make a decision to ban a member from using the website. These decisions are made after due thought and debate following the collection of advice and concerns. Should this occur, members are advised that posting about members who are either suspended, blocked or banned does nothing to help the individuals involved, the rest of the membership and their businesses. Posts that do this may be removed, and the author contacted. We ask that members respect our decision and remember there are always two sides to every story – no one is privy to everything that has gone on. We respect the rights of all members which means that we are not able to provide information about the reasons for the decision.
